WINS started Mobilizing and organizing cultivators, tenant-agricultural workers especially women farmers as Mahila Rhuthu Vedika (MRV)groups (FPG) for accessing Rights and Entitlements related to ecologically Sustainable Agriculture.
Recognizing and Building Leadership of women and generating awareness through campaigns.Influencing, Implementing Tenancy related Acts and schemes such as “Rights of Land Cultivator Act,2019”, and YSR Rythu Bharosa
MRV has enrolled 1080 farmer families, is associated with MAKAAM, or Mahila Kisan Adhikaar Manch (Forum For Women Farmers’ Rights) a nationwide informal forum of more than 120 individuals and organisations of farming women, of women farmers’ collectives, civil society organisations, researchers and activists, drawn from 24 states of India, to secure due recognition and rights of women farmers in India.
WINS has a group of 15 committed women farmers leaders (FPG) in three clusters as front line workers, who work as the resource persons while helping fellow women farmers.
WINS and MRV also liaisons with academicians (agriculture scientists in KVK) bureaucrats and like-minded farmer producer organizations and producer companies.
Objectives
- Help women farmer’s community strengthen their systems of production, processing and marketing
- Ensure agricultural initiatives are implemented in a gender sensitive fashion
- Assist women farmers to better understand and utilize their rights and resources that are available to them
- Creation of socio-economic political space for women farmers and assist them in all aspects of human development
- Promotion of agro-ecological farming
key aspects
- Ensure women farmers claim their land tenure and food security rights. Assist and support in adapting to the challenges posed by climate change
- Provide access to ration card, voter card and other identity documents such as aadhar card, birth (death) certificate
- Ensure seed cleansing, soil testing and non-pesticide management, water conservation, intercropping and horticulture training is conducted
- Building and strengthening women’s perception
Activities
- Conduct gender sensitization workshops to duty bearers with respect to women farmers issues
- Workshops with women farmers to understand their problems/aspirations
- Public education and awareness on women’s property and Inheritance rights
- Initiation of gender desk in one revenue division of the district
